Merry Christmas

(C) 2001, Don Mize

December 14, 2001

I'm going to be taking some family time during the Christmas holidays, so I'll wish you a Merry Christmas today.

Why don't you take a moment to read the Christmas story from the Bible with your family this year?  You can find it in Luke 2:1-20 and Matthew 2:1-12.  We read it together every Christmas morning.  Maybe Christmas eve would work better for you.

I think you will find it a blessing.

A Christmas Prayer

Father,

As the sounds of war
drown out the silence of peace,
help us to remember the angels
who proclaimed God's peace to people
of good will.

As the sounds of commerce
create a din of buying and selling,
help us to remember the peasant couple
huddled in a stable
around a special Child.

As the silence of hatred
erupts into explosive violence,
help us remember the wise men
who followed a star
and obeyed a dream.

As the stillness of the night
sinks around us,
bring close to us the Reality
of the Eternal Now
when Christ is born.
